Volunteer, Make a Difference

Franklin Central has the privilege of hosting two indoor percussion competitions and one color guard competition in February and March of 2020. The Indiana Percussion Association (IPA) competition will be held on February 15th, Indiana High School Color Guard Association (IHSCGA) on March 7th, and Winter Guard International (WGI) on March 14-15th.  These events allow us to showcase our school and our excellent band program.  The revenue from these events make up a large portion of Franklin Central Band's budget and benefits ALL band ensembles (Concert Band, Percussion Symphony, Jazz Band, Marching Band, Pep Band, Winter Guard).  Participation by all parents (in all band ensembles) for each event is critical for the maximum results to be achieved. Event:  Saturday, February 15th 

• 1st Shift: 11:30 am to 5:00 pm
• ​2nd Shift: 4:30 pm to 9:30 pm

Setup: Friday, March 6th - 7:00 pm (meet in cafeteria)
Event: Saturday, March 7th   

• 1st Shift: 8:00 am to 2:30 pm (leads arrive at 7:00 am)
• 2nd Shift: 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Volunteer Positions

Announcer: (IPA Only)

• Announces groups/performers prior to their show.
• Announces shout outs, sponsor ads, and general event announcements.

 
Concessions:​

• Places concessions orders throughout event as necessary.
• Tracks inventory and sales.

 
Curtain 1 or 2:

• Opens and closes large black curtains on backside of gym, (between gym and hall) allowing groups into the gym to perform.

Hospitality:
Provide food, drinks, and a broadcast of the event in one of four hospitality rooms.

• Judges 
• Directors
• Transportation
• Volunteers 

Equipment Holding:

• Assigns equipment lanes to performers upon arrival.

Note: Table and chairs provided at rear of main cafeteria
 
First Aid: (Located in "spaceship room".)

• Responds as necessary to basic medical issues. 

Note: Medical training is preferred.
 
Gym Doors:  Frontside: Spectator View   Backside: Student View

• Main: Open and close doors as performances occur; ensure proper wrist bands for area.
• Balcony: Allow people in or out as performances occur; ensure proper wristbands for area.
• Bottom of Stairs: Block spectators from hall area as performers are entering/exiting gym.
• Performer Exit: Hold doors open; guide performers to loading area.

Holding Area Release:

• Release groups from cafeteria to warm up route per schedule.

Note: Table and chair provided at exit of main cafeteria.
                          

Parking:

• Directs traffic patterns.
• Guide buses/trailers to correct areas.

Note: Weather is an important aspect of this position so please dress accordingly

​Security:

• Assist with money drops from ticket sales and concessions to Treasurer.
• Provide basic security and crowd control.

Note: Law enforcement training is preferred.
 
Shout Outs: 

• Sells shout outs to be displayed immediately prior to or during performance.

 
Volunteer Check In:

• Assists with the student and volunteer check in process.
• Helps coordinate the distribution of volunteer t-shirts via event day borrowing or purchasing.       

Note: Station is typically located in the volunteer hospitality location.
 
Ticket Sales:

• Sell wristbands to spectators entering building.  

 
Unit Check in: 

• Assist performance units with check in when they arrive at event.
• Prepare and provide unit packets (wristbands, schedules, etc.) to visiting band directors and students. 

 
Unloading:

• Guide trailers to appropriate location for equipment unloading.
• Guide trailers to parking areas.

Note: Weather is an important aspect of this position so please dress accordingly.

Warm Up:

• Keep time for groups during warm up and hold up signs at various times to indicate time remaining in warm up station.
• Ensure groups exit warm up areas per schedule.
