Volunteer, Make a Difference

Franklin Central hosts two indoor percussion competitions in February and March.  We host Indiana Percussion Association (IPA) on February 9 and WGI on March 9-10  These two events allow us to showcase our school and our excellent band program.  The most wonderful thing is that parents also get to be a part of the excitement!  The revenue from these events makes up a large portion of the FC Band's budget.  Participation by all parents is critical for the maximum results to be achieved.

Volunteer Positions
Parking
When our guests arrive at the school, YOU get to be the first person to greet them to Franklin Central!  First impressions are forever.  Parking volunteers assist guests entering and exiting the parking lots.  They provide guidance to semi-trucks, buses and equipment trailers to safely navigate to the correct location.  This job is very popular because of the constant activity.

Unit Check In
This is the first person inside the building to greet the visiting band directors and students.  They will provide the directors their information packet, wristbands and guide them to the dressing rooms for the students.

Unloading
Semi-trucks and trailers are unloaded at the main cafeteria dock.  You will provide guidance to the groups moving their equipment into the building.  The goal is to do this safely and efficiently.

Warm Ups
Prior to performing, the groups will move to the freshman cafeteria or the freshman gym to do physical warm-ups and performance warm ups.  The volunteer will mark time and alert the groups to move towards the main gym for the performances.

Concessions
We provide drinks, snacks and meals for our guests.  Concessions helps make these events successful fundraisers.  Thank you for making a good impression on our guests!

Ticket Sales
Sell wristbands and programs to spectators entering the building.  It’s exciting to greet people that are visiting our school for the first time.

Volunteer Check-In
Sit in the volunteer headquarters and greet the volunteers.  Have them sign in, hand them a volunteer shirt and a name tag.  The volunteer may also need directions to their work area.  How do you get to the backside gym balcony or the freshman cafeteria?

Gym
The gym is where the action happens!  Working in the gym allows you to see the shows while working your shift.  Making our guests feel at home is a must.
  • Greet guests and check wristbands at gym entrances
  • Secure door during performances
  • Assist performers to safely and quickly enter and exit the gym
  • You get to watch the performances

Hospitality
We need to take care of our special guests and our valuable volunteers.  Franklin Central has a reputation of providing outstanding hospitality to our guests.  It’s important that our guests want to come back!  There are four separate rooms that provide food and a friendly environment to these groups:
  • Judges
  • Directors
  • Truck Drivers
  • Volunteers

First Aid
This is a large event that requires a first aid station. It needs to be staffed by nurses, EMTs or first responders.

Security
If you work in law enforcement, this will be a fun day for you.
