ALL BAND & GUARD FAMILIES - Food Contributions for IPA on Saturday, Feb. 15
Franklin Central will host the Indiana Percussion Association contest on Saturday, February 15. WE NEED YOUR HELP to provide food for the students and the many volunteers in the Volunteer Hospitality room. All Guard and Band families are asked to contribute. Click here to see the full instructions, including what you are asked to provide. If you have questions, please contact Angie Sears at angela.r.sears@hotmail.com.
Band Booster Bylaw Amendments – What you need to know

The band boosters are proposing the addition of some positions and adjusting the term limits for board officers. This requires a change to the bylaws. The finalized version of the amendments will be presented at the Feb 11 parent meeting.

Why are these changes being proposed?
The FC band directors and many parents expect the high school band to rapidly grow in the coming years due to the population surge in Franklin Township. The proposal expands the number of Booster officers and defines a recommended and expanded number of appointed leaders. This will provide future Booster organizations a blueprint for leading a larger group of students and parent volunteers.

Summary of Proposed Bylaws Amendments
Amendment One:
Four New Band Board Officer Positions are being proposed.
             1.    Vice President
             2.    Fundraising Coordinator (formerly Vice President Ways and Means)
             3.    Engagement Coordinator (formerly Vice President Communications)
             4.    Events Coordinator

Amendment Two:
The maximum time that a person can serve consecutive terms in the same Elected Board Officer role is proposed to be 3 years (formerly 2 years). The rationale for this be to would allow for consistent parent leadership to remain in place when necessary. For example, the change in the length of terms would be useful, should there be the occasion when no new candidates were slated for any one of the officer positions. The change in term length will still allow for any band parent to run for any office on an annual basis.

Amendment Three:
Details and descriptions are being added to the Bylaws for liaison and other support positions.

Important Dates
Tuesday, February 11 – PARENT MEETING: Booster Board will present finalized proposed amendments to parents; no vote will be taken.
Tuesday, March 10 – PARENT MEETING: Parents will vote on the proposed bylaw amendments. If passed, the search for candidates to fill the board positions will begin.
Thursday, April 9 – PARENT MEETING: Band Booster Board Election

How do I get involved?
If you’re a veteran band or guard parent and you’re interested in using your leadership skills to serve the band program in an expanded capacity, please talk to any of the band booster officers about adding your name to the ballot on April or send an email to officers@fcbands.org.

IMPORTANT - Proposed Changes to Band Booster Bylaws
Proposed Changes Coming to the Band Boosters
The band boosters are proposing the addition of some positions and adjusting the term limits for board officers. This requires a change to the bylaws. Per the bylaws, we must share the changes with the band parents and offer you a chance to provide comments and suggestions. Please download and review the document and send your comments to officers@fcbands.org. The deadline for comments is the end of day, Thursday, January 30.

The completed bylaws will be presented at the February band parent meeting on Tuesday, February 11 at 7:30pm. A vote will be taken on whether to pass the changes to the bylaws; you must attend the meeting to vote. Click the link to see the updated bylaws that include the proposed changes.

Why are these changes being proposed?
The FC band directors and many parents in the FC Band Booster organization expects the program to grow in the coming years. To better prepare for the increase in student enrollment, amendments are being proposed to prepare future band parents for the leadership roles that we think will help serve a larger organization. As of the 2019-2020 school year, we host three competitions, a craft fair, and many other activities. Those events will grow, and new fundraising events will be added, with the increases in our band member enrollment. With better defined leadership roles, the goal is to have improved communication between staff, directors, the elected Band Board Officers, and with all band parents.

The proposed bylaw amendments are also intended to provide a more defined framework of responsibilities and needs, for the current and future band parents. The amendments will illustrate what roles need to be filled, in order to continue the current activities and fundraisers of the organization. While these amendments are one small effort to create a defined list of leadership roles, it is understood that many parents participate, in multiple ways, to support the band programs, in undefined roles.

The leadership definitions in the proposed amendments are subject to modification during the next few weeks of discussion. Parent communication on the proposed amendments is essential. Your feedback is welcomed. We hope you will take a few moments to consider the amendments and share how you believe we can make improvements on the documents.  Send your feedback to officers@fcbands.org. The deadline for comments is the end of day, Thursday, January 30.

Summary of Proposed Bylaws Amendments
Amendment One:
   1.    Four New Band Board Officer Positions are being proposed, to be added to the current Board Officer positions of President, Treasurer, and Secretary. These changes would result in there being 7 elected Board Officer (voting) positions, instead of the current 5 elected Board Officer positions.
The four new positions would have the following titles:
             a.    Vice President
             b.    Fundraising Coordinator (formerly Ways and Means Vice President)
             c.    Engagement Coordinator (formerly Communications Vice President)
             d.    Events Coordinator

Amendment Two:
   2.    The maximum time that a person can serve consecutive terms in the same Elected Board Officer role is proposed to be 3 years (formerly 2 years). This would allow for consistent parent leadership to remain in place when necessary. For example, the change in the length of terms would be useful, should there be the occasion when no new candidates were slated for any one of the officer positions. The change in term length will still allow for any band parent to run for any office, on an annual basis.

Amendment Three:
3. Details and descriptions are being added to the Bylaws for liaison and other support positions.

Thank you for your support of the students and staff of the FC Band Department.
Warmest Regards,
The FC Band Booster Board

The Indiana Percussion Association (IPA) competition will be held on February 15; Indiana High School Color Guard Association (IHSCGA) on March 7; and Winter Guard International (WGI) on March 14-15. These events allow us to showcase our school and our excellent band program. The revenue from these events make up a large portion of Franklin Central Band's budget and benefits ALL band ensembles (Concert Band, Percussion Symphony, Jazz Band, Marching Band, Pep Band, Winter Guard). Participation by all parents (in all band ensembles) for each event is critical for the maximum results to be achieved. Join in on the excitement and volunteer today!

The following is a collection of details regarding volunteering for the hosted events. The contacts for these events are: Tyler Bongen and Heather Buck, coordinator@fcbands.org

The Band Handbook that we all signed requires that we volunteer for one shift per day. These events are important to keeping bands fees stable. Here's what page 3 of the handbook says, requiring volunteering
Show Hosting Requirements
The Band Boosters at Franklin Central High School host many events throughout the year, such as Winter Guard contests, Winter Percussion (IPA) contests, and a 2-day Winter Guard International (WGI) Percussion Regional. Groups from all over the country participate in these events, with attendance exceeding 5,000 guests. This generates TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS for the Band Boosters, but help is required to put on these prestigious events. Students and family members must volunteer for at least 1 shift/position at each event. This helps to make out-of-pocket fees as low as possible. Please reserve these dates as they become known and sign up for a shift as soon as the schedule is made available. Hosting shows prevents the need to hold “door-to-door” fundraisers on a nearly constant basis.

Hosting shows throughout the year REDUCES the amount of time we spend fundraising. Hosting shows brings in tens of thousands of dollars to the band program each year. Hosting shows reduces fees for ALL band students by HUNDREDS of dollars. To put it simply...we LOVE hosting shows!

Mattress Sale - Sunday, Feb. 23
The Better Sleep Council recommends that you replace your mattress every 7-10 years.! Come to the annual FC Bands Mattress Sale on Sunday, February 23, from 10am to 5pm. Your band account will receive credit for all sales from your referrals. The 2019 mattress sale raised about $4,500. With a small amount of effort from everyone, this event will be a success.

An informational meeting will be held on Thursday, January 30 at 7pm. The band will receive $10 for every adult who attends the meeting from Custom Fundraising Solutions. In 2019, this evening meeting alone earned $500. The purpose of the meeting is to educate parents on how to best promote the mattress sale to friends and family and to answer questions about the products.

We will be offering students an opportunity to wear a mattress costume on the day of the sale and wave at cars on Franklin Road. We will have 3 shifts with 2 students each shift: 11am-1pm, 1-3pm, 3-5pm. Each student's band account will receive $20 for this opportunity (limit one shift per student).

If you have questions, please contact Travis Sears - vpwaysandmeans@fcbands.org.

50/50 Raffle - Needs a Leader
We need someone to take ownership of the annual 50/50 Raffle fundraiser. This has the potential of earning $10,000 for the band! Unfortunately, without a volunteer to lead this fundraiser, we are unable to continue offering the 50/50 raffle. Contact Travis Sears if you are interested - vpwaysandmeans@fcbands.org.

Volunteer for Three Events FC is Hosting in 2020
Franklin Central has the privilege of hosting two indoor percussion competitions and one color guard competition in February and March.

Here's what page 3 of the handbook says, requiring volunteering.
