Band Booster Bylaw Amendments – What you need to know The band boosters are proposing the addition of some positions and adjusting the term limits for board officers. This requires a change to the bylaws. Per the bylaws, we must share the changes with the band parents and offer you a chance to provide comments and suggestions. Please download and review the document and send your comments to officers@fcbands.org. The deadline for comments is the end of day, Thursday, January 30. Click Here to Download the proposed Bylaws Why are these changes being proposed? The FC band directors and many parents expect the high school band to rapidly grow in the coming years due to the population surge in Franklin Township. The proposal expands the number of Booster officers and defines a recommended and expanded number of appointed leaders. This will provide future Booster organizations a blueprint for leading a larger group of students and parent volunteers. Summary of Proposed Bylaws Amendments Amendment One: Four New Band Board Officer Positions are being proposed. 1. Vice President 2. Fundraising Coordinator (formerly Vice President Ways and Means) 3. Engagement Coordinator (formerly Vice President Communications) 4. Events Coordinator Amendment Two: The maximum time that a person can serve consecutive terms in the same Elected Board Officer role is proposed to be 3 years (formerly 2 years). The rationale for this be to would allow for consistent parent leadership to remain in place when necessary. For example, the change in the length of terms would be useful, should there be the occasion when no new candidates were slated for any one of the officer positions. The change in term length will still allow for any band parent to run for any office on an annual basis. Amendment Three: Details and descriptions are being added to the Bylaws for liaison and other support positions. Important Dates Thursday, January 30 – Deadline for providing feedback on proposed changes to officers@fcbands.org Tuesday, February 11 – PARENT MEETING: Booster Board will present finalized proposed amendments to parents; no vote will be taken. Tuesday, March 10 – PARENT MEETING: Parents will vote on the proposed bylaw amendments. If passed, the search for candidates to fill the board positions will begin. Thursday, April 9 – PARENT MEETING: Band Booster Board Election How do I get involved? If you’re a veteran band or guard parent and you’re interested in using your leadership skills to serve the band program in an expanded capacity, please talk to any of the band booster officers about adding your name to the ballot on April or send an email to officers@fcbands.org. If you’re a freshman or middle school parent and want to become more involved, you can start by filling out the volunteer survey. We want you to be aware of all of the great opportunities to be involved. It’s fun, you’ll make new friends, and best of all you’ll be adding value to the FC Band program. Click Here to Download the proposed Bylaws The Guard swag stores are open now until 8am on Monday, Feb. 3 Each winter guard member will get a t shirt as their “free” show shirt which is paid for with your fees.

IMPORTANT - Proposed Changes to Band Booster Bylaws Proposed Changes Coming to the Band Boosters The band boosters are proposing the addition of some positions and adjusting the term limits for board officers. This requires a change to the bylaws. Per the bylaws, we must share the changes with the band parents and offer you a chance to provide comments and suggestions. Please download and review the document and send your comments to officers@fcbands.org. The deadline for comments is the end of day, Thursday, January 30. The completed bylaws will be presented at the February band parent meeting on Tuesday, February 11 at 7:30pm. A vote will be taken on whether to pass the changes to the bylaws; you must attend the meeting to vote. Click the link to see the updated bylaws that include the proposed changes. Why are these changes being proposed? The FC band directors and many parents in the FC Band Booster organization expects the program to grow in the coming years. To better prepare for the increase in student enrollment, amendments are being proposed to prepare future band parents for the leadership roles that we think will help serve a larger organization. As of the 2019-2020 school year, we host three competitions, a craft fair, and many other activities. Those events will grow, and new fundraising events will be added, with the increases in our band member enrollment. With better defined leadership roles, the goal is to have improved communication between staff, directors, the elected Band Board Officers, and with all band parents. The proposed bylaw amendments are also intended to provide a more defined framework of responsibilities and needs, for the current and future band parents. The amendments will illustrate what roles need to be filled, in order to continue the current activities and fundraisers of the organization. While these amendments are one small effort to create a defined list of leadership roles, it is understood that many parents participate, in multiple ways, to support the band programs, in undefined roles. The leadership definitions in the proposed amendments are subject to modification during the next few weeks of discussion. Parent communication on the proposed amendments is essential. Your feedback is welcomed. We hope you will take a few moments to consider the amendments and share how you believe we can make improvements on the documents. Send your feedback to officers@fcbands.org. The deadline for comments is the end of day, Thursday, January 30. Click the link to see the updated bylaws that include the proposed changes. Summary of Proposed Bylaws Amendments Amendment One: 1. Four New Band Board Officer Positions are being proposed, to be added to the current Board Officer positions of President, Treasurer, and Secretary. These changes would result in there being 7 elected Board Officer (voting) positions, instead of the current 5 elected Board Officer positions. The four new positions would have the following titles: a. Vice President b. Fundraising Coordinator (formerly Ways and Means Vice President) c. Engagement Coordinator (formerly Communications Vice President) d. Events Coordinator Amendment Two: 2. The maximum time that a person can serve consecutive terms in the same Elected Board Officer role is proposed to be 3 years (formerly 2 years). This would allow for consistent parent leadership to remain in place when necessary. For example, the change in the length of terms would be useful, should there be the occasion when no new candidates were slated for any one of the officer positions. The change in term length will still allow for any band parent to run for any office, on an annual basis. Amendment Three: 3. Details and descriptions are being added to the Bylaws for liaison and other support positions. Thank you for your support of the students and staff of the FC Band Department. Warmest Regards, The FC Band Booster Board Upcoming Performances
