Band News Flash August 26, 2019

8/24/2019

Welcome to this week's News Flash!  This is everything you need to know about Franklin Central Band right now.

Are You Connected to the Band?

During Marching Band Season we have up to 9 competitions that require travel to distant locations.  In the past years, the Marching Band Liaison would send a text message to parents that had signed up with arrival times and special situations like storm delays or cancellations.  This communication is vital and we do not want you to be disconnected and left in the dark.
Picture
If you've given us your contact information in the past, you are likely already setup in Cut Time AND you'll want to confirm your email, cell phone AND MOBILE CARRIER.  Without the mobile carrier, no texts will be sent.

If you think we already have your contact information, start here.
  •  Click here to: Go to Cut Time Login page
  • Click "Forgot Your Password?" and follow the instructions.

Please update your contact information and verify your cell phone number and update the Mobile Carrier.  When you save the screen, it will require a birthday.  We do not need your birthday, just enter 01/01/1980.  The birthday tells Cut Time whether you're a child or an adult then adjusts what features the account has access to use.

If you tried the previous step and did not receive an email or you're unsure whether you're setup, please send an email to cuttime@fcbands.org.
 Please include the following:
  • Your Name and the name of any other parent/guard
  • Email addresses
  • Cell phone number and mobile carrier
  • Student name(s)
  • Birthday and Grade level
  • Home address

If you have any questions, please contact  cuttime@fcbands.org.

Mums Fundraiser, What's next?

Amazing Results!  The Mum Fundraiser resulted in nearly double the number of plants sold over 2018, an increase in participation and high usage of the web store.  Great work everyone!
Here are numbers.
  • 2149 Plants sold (2018 - 1092, 97% increase)
  • 700 Plants sold online.  This is more than all plants sold in 2017 (685 plants).
  • 108 web orders in 3 weeks and most occurred in the last 3 days of the sale.
  • 96 Students participated or 60% of the marching band (2018 - 61 students or 45% of the marching band)
  • $12,570 will go to student band accounts (2018 -  $6400)
  • The best seller was 91 plants and $537 going to their band account.

Note:
  • If your student received online sales from someone other than you, an email was sent on Thursday, Aug 22 with the details.
  • Mums Pickup will be 5:30pm - 7:00pm Tuesday September 10.  If you fail to arrive before 7pm, your plants will likely be locked away in a windowless room for 2 days (there will be no band practice again until Thursday).
  • The band statement was sent on Sunday August 25, it will reflect your sales.  You were paid $6 for each mum and kale and $5 for each Purple Aster.

Volunteers are needed to unload trucks and help organize orders for pickup on September 10.  Click here to sign up.

Help Needed with Marching Uniforms

Picture
Have you ever dreamed of taking your child’s band uniform home?
Are you the Queen/King of laundry?
Do you have more washing skills than you know what to do with?
Then join the uniform washing team!
We need a lot of helpers to wash the uniforms and keep our kids looking and smelling great!
The uniforms are easy to wash!
Wash with non-chlorine detergent, cold delicate cycle, hang dry!
If you volunteer to wash uniforms, you will be given a specific set of uniforms to wash. You can include your own child’s uniform in your group. The number of uniforms will vary depending on the number of volunteers we get. They will need to be picked up at the Annex.
I am asking that you pick up your group of uniforms on Tuesday, August 27 and please have them back no later than Friday, August 30.
I will be there on Tuesday to help and answer any questions you may have.
To volunteer, please contact Amy Scott.  Scottjan02@yahoo.com

First Band Competition, Sept 7 Decatur Central

On September 7, our Marching Flashes will compete at the Decatur Central Contest of Champions Marching Band Invitation.  Here's what to expect.
  • We will not know specifically when the band will perform until the Band Liaison publishes the itinerary.  Because FC is a Class A school (large attendance school), expect the performance to occur after 4pm.
  • The Band Liaison will publish the itinerary on the Thursday or Friday before the competition.  This depends on the competition organizers sending the information to our band directors.
  • Competition days are long hours for the students.  Depending on the time the event judging and awards completes, students could be released as late as midnight at our school.  Setup your cell phone number and cell carrier name in Cut Time to stay informed on exact times the school buses will depart the competition site and when they'll arrive at the school. (More on Cut Time at the top)
  • Once you know the time of our performance, plan to arrive one hour early.  Class A schools are the largest bands with the largest number of spectators - the stands fill up fast.
  • Come to the competition wearing your Marching Flashes gear or show logo merchandise or anything from Franklin Central H.S..  Bring some noise makers too - the Spirit Committee can help with that.
  • When you arrive at the stadium and you're searching for a seat, look for our logos and gear - this is your band family and they will gladly welcome you to sit.  They've been waiting for you!  Go there expecting to make a new friend.
  • Cheer for every band that performs and cheer louder when our kids take the field.
  • HOT TIP for Sept 21 : Avon concessions sells Blue Raspberry Kettle Korn.  Buy enough that you don't have to share.
  • After the competition, when you come to the school to pick up your student, they will not be released until the trucks and semi trailer have been unloaded.  Note that most of the parent volunteers have been at the school for as long as the students and have been handling this equipment and props all day - they will be exhausted.  Please give them a break and help unload the trucks and semi trailer.  This means the kids will be released quicker AND you'll be a hero.

THANK YOU to everyone that helped unload the trucks last year on September 22, 2018 when we returned from Oxford, Ohio at 1:00am.  We had the trucks unloaded before the buses arrived.  Good Job and THANK YOU!
